If you have ever felt undervalued at work as a woman, you shouldn’t. Women are getting ever more common in the workplace and even have uncommon skills that can help them succeed even in a male-dominated career. Recognizing the usual self empowering tools for women, that women already possess, is very robust.
Women have innate skills, but can feel as if those talents are not applicable to the work environment. This is false. It is accurate that women, just like men, still need to master practical and specialized business skills in order to achieve success, but in terms of climbing the corporate ladder, they have irreplaceable abilities that organizations respect. Just by tapping into these talents, women can empower themselves to obtain everything and anything they want.
We can start with interaction, a ability that is vital to success. Women are inherent conversationalists. I’m sure that you’ve noticed how a mother seems to “just know” how crucial it is to talk and interrelate with her kids, by using appropriate speech and language-structure that a child can make sense of. This same talent, slightly adjusted, functions wonderfully in a business setting. For instance, a woman that finds herself in charge of other coworkers mustbe able to communicate with every employee individually in a way that each person can comprehend.
Helen Fisher, author, The First Sex: The Natural Talents of Women and How They Are Changing the World, makes reference to this as a flair for language. Fisher explains the increasing need for the capability to converse with written and spoken words. To quote her, “At talking, women have the edge.” Fisher explains how females, even when very young “excel at… verbal fluency – rapidly finding appropriate words, phrases or sentences.” Fisher continues “Women are, on average, more articulate at saying what they say.” Ladies, accepting this information and putting trust in their natural language ability in communication will encounter their confidence climbing.
As for training or coaching, women also have an advantage. The fostering traits that are easier for women make it feasible for women to aid kids learn and mature. The correct mix of encouragement, discipline, freedom and restrictions will lead to a kid whose self-assurance and abilities are very mature and continue to surpass that of other kids. When this type of condition is applied to the business world, a woman should do the similarly for her co-workers.
Again, Helen Fisher’s research as documented in The First Sex posist, “Women are, on average, more interested in cooperation, harmony, and connections – a network of support.” She also writes, “Women characteristically believe everyone can succeed in business; they take a win-win attitude in the office world.”
Most women are also competent multi-tasking or multi-focusing. organizing people, reports, time limits and all the essential resources becomes crucial to the success of the groups’ results.
Helen Fisher makes reference to human’s progress, even back to ancestral times, a female needed to bring up vulnerable and long-dependent offspring under extremely hazardous surroundings showing the need for the ability to do multiple things even then. Her description is great: “In order to rear helpless infants, ancestral mothers needed to do a lot of things at the same time. Watch for snakes. Listen for thunder. Taste for poison. Rock the sleepy. Distract the cranky. Instruct the curious. Soothe the fearful. Inspire the tardy. Feed the hungry. Mothers had to do countless daily chores while they stoked the fire, cooked the food and talked to friends.”
For sure, not all women have mothering skills and not every woman is the same, but all women have the aptitude to spot the talents they possess and use them for individual and professional empowerment. Women are just as effective at business guidance as men. If examining what makes you a thriving woman interests you, why not make a a list of all your personal characteristics – those natural skills and empower yourself to elevate to new heights of success.
